We have approached our resident footy expert for his tips and insights into the upcoming AFL season, and he has gone through and provided his predictions on the ladder. How will he fare once we get to the end of the season? Where is your team placed and how do you think our secret tipper has gone in predicting the season ahead?
- Brisbane Lions
- Carlton Blues
- Collingwood Magpies
- Sydney Swans
- GWS Giants
- Western Bulldogs
- Port Adelaide Power
- Essendon Bombers
- Saint Kilda Saints
- Melbourne Demons
- Adelaide Crows
- Geelong Cats
- Gold Coast Suns
- Richmond Tigers
- Hawthorn Hawks
- Fremantle Dockers
- North Melbourne Kangaroos
- West Coast Eagles
- Brisbane Lions: The absolute strongest team in the comp, hard to see them losing at home or away. Absolutely stacked with talent.
- Carlton Blues: If the Blues can get consistent, they have the squad to be an absolute powerhouse of a side. Baggers are Flaggers for mine.
- Collingwood Magpies: A bloody good side, but some of the stronger teams will have worked them out in my opinion.
- Sydney Swans: The best 22 for the Swans are all hitting their prime. They’ve got a well rounded side, with a strong core.
- GWS Giants: Really starting to look like a cracking team toward the end of 2023. Some serious stability here moving forward.
- Western Bulldogs: Like Sydney, key players are starting to hit their peak. Hard to see them missing the eight.
- Port Adelaide Power: A pretty tough draw this year. I think they’ll be treading water for a lot of the season but pull off enough wins to scrape in.
- Essendon Bombers: Off season recruiting has added some serious talent and fitness to the Essendon line up. I can see them sneaking in and potentially breaking the finals drought!
- Saint Kilda Saints: After exceeding expectations last season and jagging a home final, the tri-colours are looking set to get found out. Not much has changed in Saint Kilda, and while they were firing in the back half of 2023, I think they’ll find the competition too tough.
- Melbourne Demons: Everything around the Demons at the moment is negative and its hard to see that not taking an on field effect in 2024.
- Adelaide Crows: A really exciting footy club up forward, but a crumbly back line with injuries to key defenders already will make a long season ahead.
- Geelong Cats: Older and slower once again. With eleven players over 30 years of age, its hard to see the Cats keeping up with the fitter sides in the eight.
- Gold Coast Suns: Some really good draft picks, but youthful inexperience and just aren’t quite ready to fire.
- Richmond Tigers: Too predictable for mine. Will get found out in a big way, with some serious experience gone.
- Hawthorn Hawks: Too young and too reliant on key players. Will struggle this year.
- Fremantle Dockers: A really uninspired forward line that struggled for goals in 2023, and its very hard to see anything changing this season.
- North Melbourne Kangaroos: Lost a lot of experience, and as is standard for North, they’ve replaced it with youth. Nothing to see here.
- West Coast Eagles: Early injuries to an already ordinary side. Hard to see them making up any ground on the top 17.
Grand Final Prediction: Brisbane Lions V Carlton Blues
